[MLM Survivors Club] Re: MLM Survivors Club

Hi Martin,

I agree with the other person who responded that if you are arguing
with an MLMer, you have already lost. MLMers are not completely
logical individuals. The MLMer may be intelligent, well-spoken,
etc. but it is unlikely that arguing with him will be productive.
MLMers have been trained to identify anyone who argues or says
anything "negative" (a broad term for anything not pro-MLM) as
a "dream stealer." MLMers are taught that dream stealers are the
number one threat to their business. They are taught that some
dream stealers are jealous of the MLMer's success or future success
and that other dream stealers are well intentioned but very
misinformed. MLMers are taught that for the sake of their
businesses they must either change the minds of dream stealers or
avoid them completely. If you argue, you become the MLMer's biggest
perceived threat to his perceived legitimate business.

As far as what you can say, ask open-ended, thoughtful and sincere
questions in an even tone of voice. If you ask genuinely sincere
questions that require the MLMer to do some research on his own, you
will make headway. The MLMer will probably start researching the
subject in hopes of converting you but may instead start to have his
own questions about his business. (This is how my long process of
leaving Amway/Quixtar began.)

I know that isn't exactly what you wanted to hear, but unfortunately
it's the truth, you can't really argue intelligently with someone
who has been brainwashed, even if your heart is in the right place.

sentences as possible, what might you say to a devoted MLM-er to
change their mind? I ask because I run out of steam trying to argue
with such people.
