Apparently, our buddy Eric Scheibeler has recanted some of the claims
he made in his Merchants of Deception book. I am not fooled for a
single second. I do not believe that he would be battling Scamway in
court for 7 long, hard years, and then turn around to apologize for
"misrepresentation"
somehow coerced him into writing the document. Now the kingpins have
more ammo to say "see, this guy was lying". But we know better. I'm

Re: Retraction
To Whom It May Concern:
I apologize for any inconvenience created by misleading statements
attributed to me that appeared in printed publications. I did not
intend to make any such statements. This letter is an attempt to
clarify these statements, and to minimize any damaging effects thereof.
Dick DeVos has never threatened me or my family or caused any such
threat to be made. Additionally, to my knowledge, no Amway or Quixtar
employee, officer, or former officer has ever threatened me or my
family. Furthermore, any suggestion that an Amway or Quixtar
employee, officer, or former officer is partially or wholly
responsible for any alleged threats against me or my family is false.
After I declared that I intended to go inactive and chose not to
provide further training for downline distributors, Amway sanctioned
me for, as they stated, violations of the Amway Rules of Conduct.
Amway and Quixtar officials have never offered me financial
compensation in exchange for my silence or my consent to sign a
non-disclosure agreement. I received a monetary sum when my
distributorship was reinstated -money that was earned by my
distributorship during the period of suspension -but I was not asked
or required by Amway or Quixtar to consent to any agreement or
non-disclosure agreement in order to receive said money.
Quixtar recently filed an arbitration demand against me with respect
to certain statements in printed publications that were attributed to
me. Quixtar took no action regarding my website nor did it file an
action to prevent me from speaking to the media, except with respect
to what it believed to be false or misleading statements.
To my understanding, no Amway or Quixtar employee, officer, or former
officer has ever hired a private investigator to discredit me or to
find information regarding me or my family for any other purpose.
It is now my understanding that neither Quixtar nor Amway ever
sanctioned Mr. Harteis.
