I snipped most of your post for brevity - but you have done a good job
of spotting a scam. Quixtar's AMOs (Amway Motivational Ogranizations)
exist solely to pump money into the pockets of a handful of high-level
distributors, based on expensive "training and motivational" that
seldom contains either.

So now what?

I see a couple of options:

1. Simply tell your boss that you "do not enjoy" the business and wish
to quit (this is a better reason, because they've been trained to
respond to "can't afford it" "not growing fast enough", etc). If you
like some of the products, you can offer to order them through him
(although they're cheaper on ebay!)

2. You CAN remain an IBO and not attend the functions nor buy the
"tools". Amway's Rules of conduct say that the BSM's (Business
Support Materials) are completely optional - and to force you to use
them is against their Rules. Don't be afraid to check the Quixtar
website for IBO Rules.

3. If the guy is going to be a total jerk about losing you as an IBO
- you may have to look for another job. I'm sure you could win a
lawsuit over wrongful termination, but it would cost you a lot of time
and money to fight. I suspect someone as sharp as you are will be
able to find another job without all the hassle? Of course, it
wouldn't hurt to remind your old boss (assuming he's not being a good
sport about this) that if he doesn't give you a GLOWING reference, you
WILL pursue a harassment suit ;-)

Best wishes!
