They have been *programmed* to do that by what is recognized by experts
as actual brainwashing techniques. They have been taught to believe
that by pitching this, they are actually helping someone.
Understanding this is just a part, but an important part, of
understanding what happens to these people and it's one reason I use
the term drone when referring to them.
