Aye, there's the rub. Once you think you're immune, it can lead to
the, "I won't get pulled in" attitude, which can lead to you dropping
your defenses. It's like what a friend told me about when she taught
Aikido. She said that with almost every student there comes a time
when they feel good about what they're doing and start to get the
attitude of, "I wish someone would pick a fight with me so I could have
a reason to take them down." That's when one is most vulnerable.
Remember, eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. We're better off
just focusing on staying alert than in saying, "That can't happen to me
now."
