Your examples don't seem to have much to do with recruiting or one's
tendency or vulnerability to being scammed. The examples you cite
have more to do with the guilt trip that is taught once a person is
already involved.
I must admit that I was being a little antagonistic with you. There
are very few common traits that we, as survivors of MLM experiences,
can identify as making us more vulnerable to a sophisticated con
scheme. It's very important that we:
1) not undermine the significance of the frauds that are perpetrated
upon victims of MLM scams,
2) not blame the victims, and
3) place place the blame appropriately: on the perpetrators of the scam.
It's impossible, especially in our complex 21st-century world, for
everyone to know everything about everything. Those who designed the
Amway/Quixtar motivational organizations have had many years to
perfect their scam. It should not be completely up to the individual
potential recruit to be able to identify a scam when a group of people
have had more than 30 years to devise their schemes.
What you do by creating stereotypes of the "typical MLMer" or the
"best MLM recruit" is dismiss or discount other possible character
traits that recruiters use to get past otherwise discerning people.
that, in its own way, diminishes the purpose of this group and is the
reason I was challenging you.
You don't know how many times I've heard MLmers say something like, "I
have GREAT self-esteem, and I would NEVER be sucked into a scam."
Self-esteem may be one factor in a person's character that could make
him/her a potential scam victim. But it is not the only one, and it
cannot be reduced to whether or not the person has high or low
self-esteem. It has to be combined with other factors to be a valid
observation.
