<<With any company you are looking into, you have to ask some really DEEP questions of those who are trying to recruit you. Just asking for negative experiences will not get you anywhere...there are probably some negative experiences to having won the lottery! And negative experiences are not always objective...they are subjective, and may not always give all the background information that you'll need to decide whether what one person deems "negative" is what YOU would deem "negative".

If you are looking at a home based business, you need to look at:

1. What is your percentage of profit? What does it cost for "business materials" such as catalogs and other "show expenses"?
2. What does it cost you, the distributor, for your hostess to get her free product?
3. What is the return policy? (Know it, or you could end up with some really annoyed customers and you'll end up eating profits...pardon the pun).
4. What is the minimum amount you have to sell to stay "active"? (Is there a quota?)
5. If you recruit others into the business, what do you have to do to receive your commission check? Is there a minimum amount you have to sell in order to get your commission?
6. How do you earn bonuses?
7. Are awards & recognitions/trips, etc. being given to you because YOU purchase products from the company that sit on your shelf...as an enticement to get you to purchase more from the company and get yourself further into debt? Or, do they award you based on what you SELL to actual paying customers?
8. Are you actually selling a PRODUCT?? Or are you selling an "idea" or "concept". Just a note....products are usually much easier to sell than a concept! It is also these "concept" businesses that have a track record of being scams.
9. Are you being given promises of earning "$XX" amount of dollars and making "$XX" by a certain timeframe? NO ONE can tell you that for sure unless they have a crystal ball! Those promises are usually WAY overinflated, and are a way to get you to sign up and give them your money.
10. Do you have to stock inventory? Check with your tax guy, but inventory is usually not something you can write off on your taxes..."samples" may be a tax writeoff.
11. Is there a cost to attend local trainings? If so, how much, and where does the money go? It's one thing to pay $3 to help pay for the cost of renting a hall once a month to hold trainings. If the venue is free, however, where is that money going? Who's pocketing your cash?
12. Are you being pushed to invest (i.e. pay for) in training materials such as books or videos/CD's? If so, think twice. Also think twice if you're paying someone OTHER than the company DIRECTLY for these sorts of things!!!

Just a few things that you need to ask before signing ANY paperwork!! There are so many scams out there...pyramid schemes, etc. that are going to make you big promises...be careful.

There is a website: mlm-thetruth.com that has some good information. Write to the owner of the site directly. He may be able to give you some information on your particular company.

Best of luck.
