Hello, Shylock, and welcome to the group.

Deb has given you a little info about what TEAM is and how they make
their money. Boiling it down, they are running a pyramid scam with
their tools business and covering it up with a product business.
Quixtar (formerly Amway) supplies the products that these motivational
groups sell, mostly to themselves for self-consumption, and turns a
blind eye to the scam because of the astounding amount of profit
involved. Since the motivational organizations claim to be
"independent," the corporation claims igorance when the issue of the
scam is raised. And when they don't claim ignorance, they claim to be
making corrective efforts, and of course, nothing changes.

You are wise to be sceptical.

Now, as for breaking the news to your friend:

In a nutshell, you can't do it. The programming he has been subjected
to is VERY sophisticated, and he will simply dismiss anything you
present to him that is critical of the business. Don't even attempt it.

HOWEVER . . .

You CAN have an effect on his thinking. You can ask him questions
about his business and see what answers he can dig up for himself. In
order to do this, though, you'll have to learn as much as you can
about the business so that his answers don't have the opposite result.
His mentors have heard it all. They will be ready for virtually
anything you can throw at them and know how to have your friend respond.

IMO, your best approach is to ask questions that start with "I don't
understand..." and "Can you explain to me..." If he can't explain it,
he'll have to go to his upline or to the Internet to find his answers.
That's when his thinking will begin.

When you do your research (and you MUST do some research if you're
going to attempt anything), you'll need to know about the Blakey
Report and the Postma Memo. You may want to download and read
"Merchants Of Deception," a free eye-opening online book by Eric
Scheibeler available at http://www.merchantsofdeception.com . You'll
want to see the exposé that was shown on Dateline NBC a couple of
years ago. Go to YouTube and do a search there for it.

There are other resources that you can utilize for your own education
on this and other MLM scams. You can also ask questions of us on this
board (and others) or you can email some of us privately with your
inquiries.

I know it sounds like a lot to digest, and it may be. But if you want
to have an impact on your friend and anyone else like him, you don't
want to attempt to be a Jedi before your training is complete. You
can very easily make things worse.

Hope that gives you a good start. All the best to you.
