<<The traits that Lori describes can also fall under narcissistic
personality disorder, which has absolutely nothing to do with MLM's.>>
I just wanted to jump in here quickly. NPD had a very low prevalence
rate and is more common in men than in woman. Personality disorders
are tricky things, and PD's in general are a source of controversy in
the mental health community.
If Lori's grandmother did have an underlying mental health issue of
any kind, I strongly believe that her MLM involvement would only
exacerbate any pre-existing problems, and even if the MLM is not the
sole cause of the problem, it is certainly not helping. Lori is
dealing with something very difficult, and I feel that she has
accurately identified a cause of her grandmother' s actions.
Lori- Best of luck in dealing with your situation! I hope that you
find this group both supportive and helpful. This group is a
wonderful resource.

<<I agree completely with everything you said. I wasn't attempting to make a diagnosis. I was simply attempting to point out that there are other causes for these types of personality traits because MLM "programming" can create these very same actions and thought patterns in a person. Although it does appear that MLM involvement, in this case, does have a lot to do with it. Still, I'm not willing to say it's 100% MLM, because no one can say for sure. But, then there's the "chicken or the egg" argument. Does the MLM feed create ALL the changes in someone's personality, or are there certain personalities that are more prone to being attracted to the allure of the lifestyle that MLM's offer (most of which are over-blown)?
