[MLM Survivors Club] Re: Herbalife

I think selling supplements like Herbalife are risky business. My
cousin is in a MLM that sells a supplement drink, one that is supposed
to save the world,(sarcasm... well she said so!) When I asked her
upline whether it would be beneficial for our Aunt who has kidney
disease, he said it would help her. After that I became skeptikal and
told my Aunt not to buy it if my cousin approached her about it.
Basically the majority of people that are selling these supplements
have no background in pharmacy or even nutrition counseling. I am a
personal trainer with a degree in fitness, nutrition, and health, who
gives nutrition advice, but I never feel comfortable telling anyone
they should take a certain supplement. That is why I find it hard to
work for commercial gyms, because they push you to sell their
supplement line. I simply tell my clients to ask their doctors about
what supplements would be good for them, especially since I have no
idea how the supplements would react with the medications that they
could be taking or not telling me about. Ask yourself, who am I to
tell people what drugs to ingest? If you think about it, food is
a "drug." Eating invokes reactions in the body that can help or hurt
you depending on how you use it. For example my Aunt actually knows
better than to try lotions and potions that people have been trying to
get her to take all these years. She listens to her doctor because who
would have known that eating too much bananas (potassium) could kill
her? Just some food for thought...
